Starting Miss Merry Melody (finally!)

Today is the day! I am going to begin work on my designs for Miss Merry Melody! I think I will begin with my design for “April Showers,” as I have the clearest idea for that design, and it shouldn’t take too long. As our Labor Day deadline looms closer, and school starts next week, I am finally feeling the pressure to get going and sew! Once I start sewing, Grace will probalby come and join me, and them we just have to get Claire started on her designs!

As I was thinking about Miss Merry Melody, I was reminded of the entry that won the pageant last year. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of her.

She wore a replica of the dress Audrey Hepburn wore in My Fair Lady for the song “Ascot Gavotte.” This was my design, and I was glad she won, as you’ll see. It was a last minute entry, as I had finished my planned designs much earlier than Grace and Claire. While waiting for them to finish, I decided to do another entry. We had recently watched My Fair Lady, and I picked the famous Ascot Gavotte design. Even just last year, my stash wasn’t as extensive as it is now, so I didn’t have any of the things I needed. So off to Hobby Lobby I went. I blithely dropped two kinds of lace, three colors of silk roses, black and white foam, black and white feathers, and that distictive striped ribbon into my cart. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised when the total came to over $15, but I was shocked nonetheless. I had never spent that much money on a single design! Not even on a whole pageant. However, I pulled out the cash, went home, and proceeded to work my hardest on that entry. If I had to spend that much money on an entry, then it had better win!

Well, she won, and I was happy. I’m sure there will be even more amazing entries this pageant. But none of them will ever come to life if I don’t stop typing and start sewing!
