The entries in this pageant were inspired by costumes from movies. The designers had to make a replica of their chosen costume, then present a picture to accompany the finished design at the pageant. There were 24 entries, all of whom were very beautiful. Because we really love old movies, most of the entries were from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s.
Grace’s collection was inspired by silent movies. Because all the silent films were black and white, she did not use any color in her designs. Grace dressed all her Barbies in black, white, or shades of gray, as dictated by her picture of the costume. Rachel’s collection was a representation of movies throughout the decades. She replicated a costume from one movie for each decade, from 1920 to 2000.
Our cousin Claire joined us in this pageant. She shares our passion for Barbie design, so we invited her to be a guest designer in the Miss Silver Screen pageant. She produced some lovely designs inspired by some of her favorite movie costumes.
Here are the lovely winners. All the Barbies were stunning, and it was very difficult to narrow it down to the final ten, much less pick a winner. But vote we did, and we crowned the top three designs.
1st Place: Miss Silver Screen was inspired by one of the costumes worn in the movie Amadeus. She was designed by Rachel, and represented the 1980s.

2nd Place: Grace’s representation of the costume worn by Lillian Gish in Orphans of the Storm took second place.

3rd Place: Claire’s design was based on a huge costume worn by Norma Shearer in Marie Antoinette.
