Miss Universe (NEW)

The Miss Universe pageant was perhaps the best pageant ever, in terms of the quality of the designs. Each designer outdid themselves in both craftsmanship and creativity. The scoring was some of the most varied ever, and there was only a slim margin between the winners.

For this pageant, designers were assigned countries, and required to interpret the countries in their designs. Grace and Rachel chose to have a theme for their collections, while Claire interpreted each design individually. You can see pictures of all the entries in the picture gallery.

Grace chose to base her designs on well-known or common buildings in the countries. As a result, she had some very interesting entries. Many of her designs had sculpted skirts and creative embellishments to evoke the building they were based on.

Rachel took the idea of “national costume” literally. She did extensive research into the traditional or historical clothing of each country, and designed each entry accordingly.

As mentioned above, the scores for each entry were extremely varied. However, the three winners were obvious favorites, although everyone had a different idea of how they should be ordered. The final placing was a follows:

Rachel’s design for China became Miss Universe. Everyone was impressed with her hand-beaded dragon and elegant design.

2nd Place:

Grace’s design for Greece was based on the Parthenon. The design was really impressive, as you can see. We all especially liked the little people! Grace made them out of wire, then covered them in white ribbon.

3rd Place:

Claire’s lovely design for Spain won third place. We were all amazed at the amount of work she put into the many ruffles on the skirt; and we loved the color.

This pageant was so challenging; all the designers worked really hard and were exhausted when the pageant was finally complete. Nevertheless, everyone was pleased with their designs, and the pageant was a success.

Wow! You girls did a great job! I enjoyed looking at the gallery for this pageant. Grace was very creative using different buildings from her countries. You made Barbie look like beautiful architecture. Rachel did a lot of bead work on hers–how do you ever get all those tiny trims on small doll? Claire had some of the most beautiful dolls; Spain and Iceland were my favorites. I can’t wait to see your next pageant. I hope Claire is able to join you. Thanks for inspiring this Barbie lover!

    • Jody,

She will be joining us for our next pageant, Miss Merry Melody. Check out the Blog Posts to learn more about that theme. Also, keep checking back, as we have asked Claire to do a guest post on our blog! We thought everybody might enjoy hearing from her, as she sometimes joins us for Barbie pageants!
